Anna Lindgren has led Gerstner since 2019. Before that she spent twelve years as Dean of Architecture and Design, where she introduced the shared first-year studio that every faculty now runs in some form.
Her own research looks at how public buildings shape the institutions inside them: schools, libraries and town halls built between 1950 and 1980, and what happened to them once the money ran out.
As rector she has kept the university small on purpose. Studios stay at twenty students, and every new programme has to find a home in an existing faculty before it gets a budget.
